Michael “Zumarus Maximus’ is a DJ and producer who has worked alongside industry pros like DJs Oskido, Siyanda, Cleo, Fresh, Gareth Cliff, Kent and Euphonic. He’s also opened live for celebrity acts such as The Kickstands, Majozi, Freshly Ground, Prime Circle, Goldfish and holds the honour of playing at the Durban leg of Mariah Carey's Sweet Sweet Fantasy World Tour.
Michael’s journey into music entertainment started in the late 90s -- initially as a hobby, which transitioned into a passion and then into a career in music radio. Today, his in-depth understanding of music and sound has taken him into the confidence of the public he plays for. He is the force behind audio imaging at KZN's largest regional radio station, Gagasi FM
At East Coast Radio, Michael was the DJ behind the station’s Breakfast Show ‘Noughty Mix’, which played to 1.9 million listeners every Friday morning, gearing up fans for the weekend. The positive social impact this segment left, together with Michael’s authentic love for entertaining people has etched his name in the disc jockey industry’s hall of fame.
Michael is regularly booked to handle music for corporate events around the country. He’s also the go-to guy for Arena Stand-Up Comedy Festivals, Rugby & Cricket Tournaments, televised pageants and music festivals including the Fitches & Leeds Gin Festival, the South Coast Bike Fest, the The Durban Country Club Festival of Bubbles as well as South Africa's longest running music festival, Splashy Fen.
His diverse collection of music includes hits and artists from 70s to today, across all genres including rock’n’roll, local music, house, hip-hop and R&B. His gift for entertainment extends beyond parties and includes a wide range of music applications that include sound production and audio imaging for commercials, podcasts, radio series and more.
On a personal level, Michael’s respect for broadcast radio is found in the long hours he dedicates to perfecting his craft in sound entertainment. For him, music is all about the experience and his connection to it reaches far beyond just playing current hits. | MiC looked after all the sound and music at our wedding in April 2018. He nailed the cuts and choices of which parts of a song to play for each part of the ceremony and speeches. His abundant experience really shined theough when timing things like the when the bridesmaids walked down the aisle and filling any unexpected spaces and silences with the perfect choice of music. My niece and dad sang at our wedding and the sound on the live performances was perfect. At the reception party Mic happily accepted requests from our guests and had a vast array of songs in his playlist. We sent a description of the type of music we like as well as what we didn't want to hear and everything was spot on. MiC timed the crowd well and was en point with all the music choices. MiC is professional, early, organised, hears what the client really wants and delivers like a boss every time. All our guests complimented us on how brilliant he was. | Let me just start by saying that Michael Zuma is the best DJ I have ever seen at any wedding! What a legend. From the first moment we met him we loved him, so down to earth and funny. We had this idea that we would have to build our own playlist for the night, but after meeting him we felt so at ease with him and just knew he had our back.
The dancefloor was packed right up until the end, and I think he had even more fun than we did! Dancing and loving every song he played. Such a professional and a really great person.
